Welcome to the Movies!  Charleston has always been a big hit on and off of the "Big" screen.

Last week I took a break from selling homes for an evening and was an extra in a Stephen King mini-series that is currently being filmed here in Charleston called, “Mr. Mercedes.”  While I am by no means an aspiring actress, it is always fun to take a glimpse of what the film industry is like.  And, if you are a Charleston resident, you know just how desirable this area is for filming.  Some of the more well-known films that have used the Charleston area as their backdrop are “Dear John, The Notebook, The Patriot, The Lords of Discipline, Major League, O and Cold Mountain” to name a few.

What many people do not know is exactly how much the film industry may pay you for the use of your home.  Typically, it will range between $1000 and $5000 a day.  They often base the daily rate off of what your monthly mortgage payment would be.  So, not only would you have bragging rights when the film premiers, but you would also have a nice chunk of money in your pocket as well.  These rates can be even higher depending on how long they need your home.  If the crew needs to go inside your home, etc.  In fact, a home owner in Los Angeles received over $50,000 when she rented her house to be used for the filming of the moving “Argo.”  In her case, she was able to use the money towards her son’s college education.

Between the restaurants, shopping, beaches, cultural events and even filming locations…there is no doubt that Charleston has a lot to offer.  That is why I love it here so much!  If you would like to discuss looking for your next home and/or selling your current home, I would love to work with you.  Always feel free to reach out to ask questions.  It is never too early to start planning your next move.
