Under All is the Land - Part 3
Under all is the Land – Part 3 - Amenities
As anyone familiar with the greater Charleston real estate market knows, there are planned communities everywhere. When prospective buyers are looking for their new home, the first consideration is the home itself, but almost equally important is the community in which they will call home. So, there is great emphasis placed on the amenities package for the community to be competitive with all others. With this in mind, community developers and builders attempt to provide a wide array of activities to attract and help create a true sense of belonging.
The clubhouse becomes the gathering place for the home owners; a place to meet new friends and engage in activities of common interest. The clubhouse provides places to relax alone as well as enjoy the company of other owners. Many clubhouses include a reading room with a library as well as television. A nice feature of the libraries is that the owners donate books they have read and leave for others. Others read them and return for other fellow owners to enjoy. As time passes, it is amazing how many books accumulate. The assorted books include every subject from history, to education on a variety of subjects to novels. They reflect the varied interests of the owners and become talking points in conversation.
Well designed clubhouses also include a large lounge with TVs for friends to gather for football games, major golf tournaments and other events with large viewer draws. There is a bar and small kitchen to add to the enjoyment. There are card rooms, billiards and dart boards for recreation. Today, most people are health conscious and active. Well equipped fitness centers should provide for all ages and energy levels. In addition to treadmills and elliptical trainers, rowing machines and stationary bikes are important. Free weights are also used by people of all ages and abilities.
Outdoor activities include pools, hot tubs and tennis courts. In recent years, lawn bowling/bocce ball and badminten have become sports for all the family. Walking and biking trials are very popular where there is enough space.
All of these amenities add to one’s enjoyment of their home and community as well as promote socialization and contentment. They are not to be taken lightly by the developers and builders, as they contribute mightily to the success of the community and the underlying value
