Purlieu - An Amazing Charleston Restaurant
A Gem in the Westedge District
Purlieu, French for neighborhood, is a hidden gem in the Westedge district of Charleston. Located within walking distance from the River Dogs stadium, and just a few blocks from Hampton Park, Purlieu is centrally located. At first glance, the restaurant inspires a quaint and quiet impression. As soon as you step inside, the décor is fresh, modern, and very inviting. There is limited seating, but you never feel cramped. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and eager to serve. The menu offers a fresh take on some classic French favorites. My favorites are the Parisian herb gnocchi to start. It’s a balanced appetizer compromised of local shrimp, pine nuts, charred tomato fennel fondue, and topped with bread crumbs. I always struggle decided on whether to have to the P237 burger or the French dip. Both dishes are satisfying and will not disappoint. Don’t worry about parring a beer or wine with your meal. They have a small but excellent selection from all around.
When you decide to swing by, keep in mind they have select hours, which only guarantees the food is that much fresher. Finally, don’t forget to take a walk and get to know the local area. The neighborhood surrounding Perliu has some of the most beautiful real estate and highest potential for renovation downtown Charleston has to offer!
