I am hosting an open house in Hobcaw Point (usually referred to as just Hobcaw by locals) this Sunday, so I thought I would share some photos and thoughts about the neighborhood. Hobcaw is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Mt. Pleasant. The architectural styles of the homes vary quite a bit. You’ll find ranch, contemporary, lowcountry, and new construction homes along with everything in between . Hobcaw is situated on deep water - Hobcaw Creek and the Wando River.  This is a very friendly relaxed neighborhood. Lots of kids out playing. Neighbors all seem to know each other and wave or say hello to neighbor and stranger alike.
The neighborhood is filled with wonderful mature trees and landscaping. This really makes the outdoor living spaces and porches pleasant year round. Of course it’s hot and humid in the summer, but a huge old live oak in the yard shading the porch can cool things down quite a bit. If you are lucky enough to have a home on the water, the breezes off the water cool you off and help keep the bugs away. Not to mention the amazing views you can enjoy during a summer supper on the porch.

The Hobcaw Yacht Club is a gathering place for neighbors. They have a boat ramp, docks, pool and clubhouse. This yacht club is as relaxed as the neighborhood. Residents and non-residents may join the club, which has very reasonable dues. However, there is a waiting list for non-residents. Kids can join swim team, take sailing lessons, or fish off the docks. The porches on the clubhouse overlook the pool and the Wando River beyond. Parents can watch the swim meets from a rocker on the porch enjoying an adult beverage. The clubhouse porch is a fabulous place to just relax and enjoy the sunset on a quiet evening. That sounds perfect to me! The club hosts fun events throughout the year including parties on Memorial Day and July 4th and Food Truck Fridays in the summer. I’m on the waiting list!!

If you haven’t been to Hobcaw, stop by the Open House on Sunday then explore the neighborhood.
