It is headed over 90 degrees today here in Mt Pleasant, which means an after-school visit to the New Pelican’s SnoBalls! There are at least 100 flavors, such as the standard Grape, Cherry, and Lemon Lime. We have also tried the more exotic Birthday Cake, Cotton Candy, Fruity Pebbles, and the “Grenade”, which is a sour experience that my kids seem to love! Not on my personal list are Dill Pickle, Toothpaste, and the Fireball.

We first became hooked on these “New Orleans SnoBall” style shaved ice snow cones last summer at the Pelican’s SnoBalls in West Ashley on Ashley River Road (Hwy. 61).This location's set up more like a roadside stand without indoor sitting or waiting area but is easy to access for a quick pick up. The franchise takes its name from the state bird of Louisiana where this snowball sized treat originated.
