The building of a new community is always exciting, to see where once vacant woods are now vibrant communities, actually more like little cities! Nexton in Summerville, SC is one of these more city like communities. With a 25-year build out plan, Nexton is actually just taking off. Having recently visited there, I was so surprised by the growth, but at the same time the charm of this place. I had lunch at the newly opened Carolina Ale House, which was a nice family-friendly place to dine. During lunch and dinner hours, you can find your neighbors dining here. In this community you can actually live, work, play, and go to school! Talking with residents here, they love Nexton and the life style it brings. The convenience of being able to walk, bike, or golf cart ride, your child to school, yourself to work, or later in the evening out to dinner, is an appealing way of life to many Low Country families.
It looks like this Small City concept is really taking off. A little closer to home, for me, a new Small City Community is in the making Cainhoy Plantation. Another huge master-planned community, which will take decades to complete, is planned for this once sleepy rural peninsula.
