Living and Loving Cannonborough-Elliotborough
My love for food and real estate run deep in my blood, and, being from Charleston and knowing its rich culinary culture, I have a lot respect for locally owned and operated restaurants. This week, I am highlighting a local restaurant in the historic, quaint, vibrant neighborhood: Cannonborough-Elliotborough.
Located in Downtown Charleston, this neighborhood covers a rectangular section of the peninsula. Cannonborough runs from Meeting at Line Street all the way down Septima Clark Parkway (also known as the Crosstown), up President Street to Bee Street, down Bee Street, Morrison Street, and Cannon Streets to the corner of Mary and Meeting.
The average home sells in the $400K range for a condo, up to $800K range for an older, larger home. The homes in the $500K-$600K range typically need some renovations which can come at a hefty cost. This area, however, is great for people who want an old, historic, and authentically Charleston style home without paying the South of Broad price tag. Another reason to buy is for the investment opportunity. These homes are typically, but not always, less expensive rent for the area college and medical students, and can put money in your bank account each month. Young students love the area for it’s proximity to the night life of Charleston and their classes.
This area is also known for it’s quiet residential areas, and restaurants like Hominy Grill and Five Loaves Café. Take a bite of something sweet at the Sugar bakeshop on Cannon or hit up the Rogue Wave surf shop.
One restaurant you do not want to miss is Indaco. The Italian inspired cuisine will get your taste buds going. The food is served family style, and can easily be shared among the table. I decided to get the Farfalle pasta dish with sundried tomatoes, Marcona almonds, and Confit chicken. The sauce was a pesto style sauce rather than the traditional red tomato sauce. I highly recommend this dish! It is delicious and filling. The table loved it. We also opted for the Formaggio pizza with an assortment of authentic Italian cheeses and sweet peppers. Amazing. I give this pizza two thumbs up, and three thumbs if I had an extra one. Do be sure to prepare for the bill if you opt for a cocktail or two and an appetizer along with your meal. You can wrack up a hefty one if you aren’t careful.
I’d love to introduce you to everything Charleston has to offer. Contact me TODAY for more information on finding your home here in the area and selling your current one!
