About an hours drive from Charleston, you will find South Carolina's largest lake, Lake Marion. It is nicknamed South Carolina's inland sea. This lake was created by the construction of the Santee Dam in order to supply hydroelectric power to rural areas in the 1940's. The lake is in five SC counties and has a shoreline of 315 miles! It is connected to Lake Moultrie by a 7 1/2 mile conversion canal. There is easy access via I-95. Santee State Park borders the lake and visitors can stay there at their camping facilities or in their cabins. There is also the Santee National Wildlife Refuge. The lake is teeming with fish: bass, bream, crappies and is known for its catfish. There is lots of wildlife including birds, deer, wild turkeys and alligators.
And if you would like to live lakeside or have a geat weekend get away place, there are many affordable options here. There are beautiful 2-3 bedroom condominiums under $200,000! There are single family homes that are small and cute to large 6 bedroom homes for the folks that have children or like to entertain friends. Best of all, it is just a short drive to Columbia or Charleston! Call me for information on properties for sale in this great area.
