A study by Edelman Berland reveals that 33% of homeowners who are contemplating selling their home, are planning to scale down.    As the majority of the country is currently experiencing a seller’s market, let's look at some reason why this might just be the right time for baby boomer’s to sell.

A smaller home means less space, but it also  means less time, stress and money spent on upkeep.

Use the proceeds from selling your current  home to pay cash for a smaller one. Or, if you can’t pay cash, opt for a shorter term mortgage, investing your home proceeds to be used through your golden years.

For many homeowners they have enough equity in their current home to put a sizable down payment on their next home; enjoying a smaller monthly payment.

As boomers begin thinking about retirement, the big question is: What kind of lifestyle do I want after retiring?

  • For many, it’s a simpler lifestyle focused on family.
  • Traveling to those places on their bucket list (so a low-maintenance community)  might be the answer.   Many communities are offering baby boomers home options with high-end upgrades and all types of social activities; keeping many very active in their retirement years.
  • A warmer climate - the Charleston Area can certainly provide a comfortable year-round climate.
