Golf Cart Safety
The weather is warmer. The daylight hours are longer. And, kids are almost out of school! The fun of summer time is almost amongst us. However, it is important to remember that with this season, there can be several safety concerns. Golf carts are often used as a fun, easy means of transportation within neighborhoods. However, they can also be the source for some serious accidents, including ones that have been fatal. While golf carts appear to be a toy to most children (and, many adults), it is important to remember that there are laws that state how and where they can be operated. Here is a refresher of the SC Golf Cart Laws:
*A person operating a golf cart must be at least sixteen years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
*A golf cart may only be operated during daylight hours and must be within four miles of the address on the registration certificate.
*The golf cart must have a registration certificate from the DMV and have liability insurance.
*During daylight hours a permitted golf cart may operate along a secondary highway or street for which the posted speed limit is thirty-five miles an hour or less.
*During daylight hours a permitted golf cart may be operated within four miles of a point of ingress and egress to a gated community and only on a secondary highway or street for which the posted speed limit is thirty-five miles an hour or less.
It has always baffled me as to why we keep our children safely strapped in a car seat while in a car. However, when on a golf cart, you see children of all ages along for the ride with little to no safety measures being taken. We have so many great Golf Cart friendly communities in the Charleston area! Let’s keep it a safe and fun experience for everyone! If you would like to discuss how I can help you buy or sell your home in one of our golf cart communities – please contact me. I would love to have the opportunity to work with you!
