Dock Street Theatre: Charleston Charm & Ridiculous Talent
Ever taken a stroll down Church Street? If not, lets get going. Church Street is my favorite walking path down town Charleston. The architectural charm is hard to beat. My wife and I love walking our dog from The Battery and going all the way up to The Market. We always say a few places along the way make you feel like you’ve transported to another country. Just before the market, you’ll run into the magnificent Dock Street Theatre. Opening on February 12, 1736 and according to Charleston Stage, this was the first building in America built exclusively to be used for theatrical performances. Dock Street is also known for hosting the first ever opera performance in America. I’m not much of an opera man but we’ve checked out three productions in the last year and they’ve all been stellar. Dinner down town > a walk down Church Street > live theatre > and dessert afterwards at Kaminski’s. Not a bad evening if you ask me. I’ll see ya there!
