Are You Prepared for the Hurricane Season?
One guess as to what season it is....Hurricane!
Are you prepared? Do you know about the changes in Lane Reversal? Do you have a Hurricane Preparedness Kit ready?
If you can answer no to either, you are probably like most of us. I will give you some guidance and updated information and where to go to get information to be safe during the Hurricane Season.
This year they have changed where the lane reversal starts. It starts 15 miles West of last year. It is now beginning West of exit to Nexton. There are 35 evacuations routes statewide, and you can find all the directions on the SCDOT website under Travel Section in Emergency Response.
The above link will also give you more information regarding staying safe, what exits you can exit off of if needed, and where to get updated information as traveling out of evacuation areas.
We have a different type of issue this year with evacuation, add COVID 19 to the mix? They suggest remembering "Time, Space, People Place" And remember the public should recognize the danger of a hurricane poses a more significant, immediate threat to personal safety. But, we still need to be safe and take precautions.
Do you know your zone? You can plug in your address on the SCEMD.org website, and it will give you information to determine your vulnerability to storm surge. It also will help as they announce vacuations by predesignated zones.
Let's take a look at the printable Emergency kit checklist:
I have added something to my checklist.
Bug Spray is #1- It is SC, you know!
We are lucky enough to have a small camper that will be our getaway and stocked for most of the items. But, after looking at the list, I will be adding some more things to the camper.
Thanks to SCEMD for much of the information and lists.
