King’s Grant on the Ashley is a beautiful community on the Ashley River.
Located in Summerville, SC, King’s Grant on the Ashley is a part of Carolinas history. Charles 2nd of England granted the land to the eight Lord Proprietors in return to get their political and financial assistance to get him back to the throne in 1660.
In 1671, one of them, Lord Ashley Cooper, sent Maurice Matthews to Carolinas to look for the best land for building a manor house. After a long search, Maurice found the ideal location here.
