Charleston SC Schools
South Carolina's Charleston County is home to many different public and private schools for children of all ages, and higher education as well.
The Charleston County Public School District is divided into four different regions and has numerous schools from kindergarten through high school. The district also has a well developed Charter and Magnet school program. Below are the Charleston County School Districts geographic zones, along with the schools that go to each. In addition to the excellant public education offered, there are many private institutions. Charleston County is also home to branches of Trident Technical College and The College of Charleston for those that want to pursue an education after high school.
The Charleston SC School District is made up of four zones:
East, North, Central, and Southwest
Each of the Charleston Count Public Schools is located inside one of these Zones. The Zones are then broken out into smaller sub-districts which geographically determine which school a student will attend, with the exception of the county's Magnet and Charter School system. The Magnet and Charter Schools all lie in one of the Zones also, but enrollment in the schools is not based on the location of the child's home inside the county. Partial Magnet and Constituent Magnet Schools are a hybrid of the two types of schools and home location does play a roll in which children attend them.
