Where Did McDonalds Go?
My first visit to McDonalds Store # 5322 was during high school in the summer of 1982. I remember thinking that it really seemed like it was way out on the far side of Mt. Pleasant. The only thing I remember being further out of town was the neighborhood a school friend of mine had moved into called Snee Farm. For someone coming from a town that only had a Weiner King and a Pizza Hut, Micky D’s was a pretty big deal.
Little could I have guessed that thirty years later I would move here and that both of my children would be born at East Cooper Hospital just across Highway 17. We basically live within walking distance of this intersection (formerly known as the location of the “Old Kmart”) down Bowman Road in what I now refer to as “kind of central Mt. Pleasant, near Dick’s Sporting Goods “but in reality is “not far from the Ravenel Bridge.”
It was at this location that my daughter first announced that she was too old for a Happy Meal. My son’s first Egg McMuffin was there at the ripe old age of 8. While he is sad to see the old store go, we are excited about watching the new construction (which is due to be complete in December) But not nearly as much as he has enjoyed watching the McDemolition.
