The Planning Process: Getting Started

I always thought I would have it all together when it came to planning my nuptials, but I can honestly say that I stared ahead like a deer caught in the headlights. It is so overwhelming when you start making a list of everything that needs to be done. It was a no brainer that I called a wedding planner. Erica Cain with Erica Mae Cain, LLC. is a longtime friend since college, and she is the first person I thought of. She does a tremendous job with organization, decor, and making the process feel seamless.

Next was deciding on the wedding location. My fiance and I really wanted to choose somewhere that was a good representative of what we love and who we are as a couple. We also wanted to choose a location that would fit our large families and all of our closest friends. We settled in on Alhambra Hall, a venue owned and operated by the Town of Mount Pleasant in Mount Pleasant, SC. It is a gorgeous venue located in Old Village directly on the Charleston Harbor. The ceremony will take place on the lawn underneath live oak trees overlooking the harbor and the skyline of Downtown Charleston (weather permitting), and the reception will be held inside Alhambra. Inside the venue, there are gorgeous, exposed wooden beams, large rustic yet elegant chandeliers, and two large fireplaces on either side of the room.  I really wanted a space that, although large enough to fit everyone comfortably, could seem intimate and quaint at the same time. In addition, my fiance is a resident of Mount Pleasant, which meant he would receive a lower rental rate than someone from out of town. We certainly wanted to make sure each aspect of our wedding fit into our budget, and using a Town of Mount Pleasant venue was one way to save us a good bit of cash. Another great aspect of Alhambra was the ability to decorate the venue to fit our taste.
