It's shrimp time! One of my favorite times of the year is when you can get those big, juicy fresh caught shrimp off of the Lowcountry coast. You know the ones...they're in your freezer section in the local grocery store. To pay tribute to a dying breed of folks, we have the 30th annual Blessing of the Fleet! Come down to the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront this coming Sunday, April 30th, from 11am-5pm. Enjoy a day full of music and activities, the parade of boats, do the shag and take part in shrimp eating contests! The best part is admission is FREE!
Do you remember the days when Shem Creek was loaded with shrimp boats? When we use to see them coming in and out of the creek, one after another, with birds following close behind to feast on the scraps? I sure do! Well, luckily for us there are those of us that do support the local shrimping industry and still buy from family shrimpers such as Team Magwood down on the creek. While visiting Shem Creek I like to recommend a staple to our area, RB's Seafood Restaurant. Ronnie Boals and family have been making bellies happy down this way for over 40 years! Sit out on the porch and watch the boats come and go while sipping on a cold beverage of your choice! For something that's a little more laid back head a little further down the creek to The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene. Want paper plates, huge fried shrimp and sweet tea that's unbeatable? This place is for you!
While enjoying the Festival on Sunday, you may notice 3 neighborhoods within walking distance to the park. They are:
- The Tides Condominiums, from $529,000-$1,800,00. 1-3 bedrooms, 1800-2300 ft2. High-end condominiums that overlook the Charleston Harbor or the marsh. Hard to beat views and luxury.
- Sandpiper Point Townhomes, from mid $200,000's to mid $300,000's. 2 or 3 bedrooms from 950-1800 ft2. The awesome village style townhomes are tucked back between lakes and beautiful old Oak Trees.
- East Bridge Town Lofts, in the high $100,000's. 2 bedroom 960 ft2 condos. Perfect starter condos that you can own and not rent!
