Moving South- How to Handle the Humidity Next Year
There is no doubt the Charleston area is an attractive city to Northerners and those wanting to move east. Charleston is not only beautiful, but there is also so much to do on a daily basis. The weather is typically warmer during the cold months (We average 62 degrees around Christmastime). When speaking with those moving to the area from other parts of the country, the one comment I hear the most is how they are not used to the humidity.
I have lived in Charleston my whole life, and I have had to push through our main humid months (May-September). I know it is something that takes some getting used to, however, there are a few ways you can handle it like a pro.
- Wear breathable clothing. It is important to do some digging for breathable, flowy, cotton blends. I see so often people walking around in the dead of summer wearing long khaki pants and a button-up polo in the middle of the day drenched in sweat. Please, for your sake, get light clothing.
- Pick specific hours to leave the house. I’m not kidding. Between 2pm and 4pm, try to stay indoors, if at all possible, especially during July and August. The shade does not always help with humid weather.
- Stay hydrated. This is the most important of all! Be sure to keep water with you at all times.
These are the top three ways to handle the Charleston humidity. As we enter into the fall months, we can look forward to a break from the heat but it will all come back again next year. When we get to that period in time, you will be more than prepared!
I would love to assist you in finding your home here in the Charleston area! Give me a call TODAY to start the process!
