I moved to Mount Pleasant in 1976...temporarily! Well, I fell in love with the Charleston area and never left. Mount Pleasant was very different then. It was considered a small, bedroom community at the time. There was 1 flashing caution light on Highway 17 By-Pass. Shem Creek had The Lorelei and The The Trawler as the only restaurants and there were shrimp boats lining the docks 2 to 3 boats deep. Snee Farm was considered living "way out" in Mount Pleasant! And when I first moved here, blue laws were still in effect. Not only could you not purchase alcohol on Sundays but you could not purchase household and personal goods on Sunday. Kmart and other like stores were closed and several aisles were roped off in the grocery stores to keep you from buying the "outlawed items".
