My love for food and real estate run deep in my blood, and, being from Charleston, I have a lot respect for locally owned and operated restaurants. This week, I am highlighting a local Italian restaurant in the award-winning luxury development, I’On.
Fratello’s has been a favorite Italian restaurant of mine for a few years since I first visited their location in Park Circle. When I found out there was one in I’On , I had to make a special trip for dinner. Fratello’s has taken over the first floor of the I’On Inn. My favorite dish is absolutely, positively the Lasagna. It is served in an individual sized cast iron pan fresh out of the oven. I’m not sure what the secret ingredient is for the tomato sauce, but it is one of the best recipes in the area. What gives Fratello’s lasagna the special touch is the sliced sausage mixed with the ground beef that, not only gives it a little “kick,” but also helps it to stand out among other lasagnas in Charleston. There is the perfect combination of cheese, pasta, sauce, and meat. Another classic dish that I also highly recommend is the Fettuccini Alfredo with which I usually add grilled chicken.
I’On is a special place. It was originally developed by the Dover, Kohl, & Partners and Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company under the supervision of Vince Graham. The community is considered part of the “new urbanism” movement which seeks to combine residential, multifamily, commercial and amenities with civic buildings and green space to allow for a complete living, working, and social community. There is much to learn from the I’On development with numerous articles available to you on the Internet. I’On set the standard for where new developments are headed in the future.
The neighborhood might remind you Venice, Italy with canals running throughout, with elements taken from Downtown Charleston. You may notice the lakes in I’On are much like Colonial Lake located Downtown where Rutledge and Ashley Avenues meet Broad Street.
I’On Club membership is available to residents and offers multiple clay tennis courts, swimming, a gym, personal training and group classes, and a restaurant as well.
Homes in I’On start at Mid $600K for a cottage style home around 1500 square feet, all the way up to $2.5M for a lakefront property around 5,000 square feet. Prices could increase based on size, custom updated features, and property improvements (guest houses, etc.). There are currently multiple properties available between these two prices as well.
I’d love to introduce you to everything Charleston has to offer. Contact me TODAY for more information on finding your home here in the area and selling your current one!
