Irish Or Not...Here We Come (Drink)!
Only 12.9% of Americans claim to have Irish heritage but over 56% of them intend on engaging in the festivities. Whether you like it or not, St. Patrick’s Day is big deal to many Irish and non Irish Americans. So dress up in green, put your drinking shoes on, and brace yourself for copious amounts of inevitable Irish music. Charleston doesn't celebrate this day quite as hard as Savannah...but we do have plenty of local events to partake in. Without further a do, here are my top 3 places near the Old Village to celebrate St. Paddys Day! Wild Wings is in no way an Irish pub however, they do have a lot of spirit and have been preparing for this big day for a while. They will be serving $2.50 green beers, $4 Guinness and Irish Car bombs with live music all day. Red’s Ice House on Shem Creek is hosting a sunset St. Patrick’s Day bash on Saturday March 18th. They will be offering drink specials and gorgeous views to their thirsty, green dressed patrons. This pub will undoubtedly be super crowded, so if crowds are not your thing you may want to reconsider. On the bright side, there are several other bars in close proximity to if you need to escape the crowds. Last, but certainly not least is Dunleavy's Bar. Dunleavy's has been the nucleus of St. Paddys Day chaos for years until Sullivans Island decided to not undergo the annual block party tradition that we all knew and loved. Due to noise and fed up residents, this event will not be happening, however I don’t anticipate a quiet day, as many will still flock there to have a beer or 12 and represent their “heritage.” There are many local hot spots with plenty of dyed beer, loud bagpipes, and seas of green to navigate through and I encourage everyone to do a little research of their own before making their ever so important St. Paddys Day decisions.
