Good Eats on the Creek
There are many excellent options to dine at in the Old Village. This post will focus on the dining options specifically on Shem Creek. Whether you want an elegant fine dining experience or a casual one...its not hard to find a nice place you can walk to for a bite to eat. Shem Creek has 6 waterfront restaurants that are all unique in their own ways. Reds has an excellent menu with awesome all you can eat crab legs on Thursdays, however I find their seafood to be of less quality than the likes of Shem Creek Bar and Grill, RB's, Tavern and Tables and Waters Edge. The atmosphere at Reds is undeniably one of the better ones here in the low country, however this is a place I would prefer just drinking at. RB's and Shem Creek Bar and Grill have a better menu when it comes too sea food than Reds and their quality is clearly better, however they both seem to be a little over priced. The views on the back side of Shem Creek are incredibly underrated and Shem Creek Bar and Grill is the only place that can give you that experience. I haven’t always had great service there, but I've always had great views. RB's has many options and always plenty of parking. This is a place that clearly needs to do a better job with their marketing. They are not struggling by any means, but this place never seems as full as they could be given their top notch location. It seems as though RB's attracts more of an older crowd and could improve on attracting younger folks.
Watersedge is by far the best place I know of to go for happy hour with their $2.50 wells and half off appetizers, however I haven’t been overly impressed with my entrees there. They have a very extensive menu which consists of around 1/3 seafood but for some reason something always goes wrong whenever I’ve dined there. They have excellent views, great service and a wide variety of seating options which makes this an excellent place to take the family or a date for dinner. Tavern and Tables has quickly become one of the hot spots to dine at on Shem Creek. This restaurant is still relatively new to the scene but has gained a nice reputation as a classy place to enjoy a good meal. I’ve only ever eaten here once and my fish was amazing. This restaurant is a bit fancy for my taste....but after all this is Mount Pleasant. Tavern and Tables has very cozy outdoor seating and is a very nice place to go to happy hour having ample space to drink/mingle on the dock. Last but not least is Vickeries. This place has the best view of all in my opinion being the last restaurant on the end of the Creek. Views of the creek, Charleston harbor, Ravenel Bridge and the Charleston skyline are all available at this neighborhood bar/restaurant. Vickeries is a cool spot because the attire is super casual but you can also throw on a suit and not feel completely out of place. Their food is not going to knock your socks off but it is priced accordingly and they have the most unique take on fried green tomatoes I've ever encountered. This place also has an extended outdoor patio area on the ground level making it an even more desirable place to dine at. Shem Creek offers a few of Mount Pleasant's coolest restaurants that are all different in their own ways. There aren’t that many so if you haven’t tried them all make sure to do so because they are all scenic and fun places to enjoy some local food at.
