Fishing in the Lowcountry

It has been a few weeks since I posted some Lowcountry fishing information.  Reports are showing the trout are currently biting but are currently on the smaller side.  Redfish action is also starting to pick up with the water warming up.  Artificial and live baits under popping corks seem to be the bait of choice right now.

Are you just getting into fishing?  Looking to pick up some new skills?  We have some great local shops in the area that offer seminars and share a wealth of information as to what is biting and the current bait of choice.  Haddrell's Point Tackle, Charleston Angler, Lowcountry Fly Shop, and Atlantic Game and Tackle to name a few.

Some of the upcoming seminars in April:

Haddrell’s Point Fly Casting Class 

  • April 8 at 3:30pm (Mount Pleasant location)
  • Have you ever wanted to learn the art of fly casting? Haddrell’s Point can get you dialed in to casting a fly rod.
  • Local fly fishing captains will be on hand to assist with the basics and give you their tips from years of experience.
  • We typically start with the dynamics of the line and equipment and move into the proper techniques to casting and will finish with tips such as line management .
  • Class usually last an hour and a half.
  • Cost is $30 and must be paid in advance. Class is limited to ten people.

Topwater Tactics and Inshore Fishing by Haddrell’s Point Tackle Crew

Intro to Fly Tying – 1st Tuesday at 6pm - Lowcountry Fly Shop - Mount Pleasant

Want to learn how to tie flies? Great! We meet up the first Tuesday of every month for an introduction class. The class will cover the basics and all tools and materials will be provided. If you have been tying for a while and are interested in some advanced techniques we would love to have you as well. Feel free to bring your own vise as well! The exact structure of the class really depends on what the students that week are interested in. We can tie flies for bass, trout, saltwater, you name it and we can do it! Drinks and light snacks will be provided. $60 per person.

Intro to Fly Fishing – 3rd Tuesday at 6pm - Lowcountry Fly Shop - Mount Pleasant

We offer an intro to fly fishing class where individuals will learn the basics of fly fishing in general and also fly fishing for redfish and other species here in Charleston. We will cover gear, rigging, fly selections, tides, when and where to fish for Redfish in Charleston. This is a great class for trout anglers who are not very familiar with saltwater and also for people who are new to fly fishing altogether. The classes are hosted by local captains at the fly shop and drink and light snacks will be provided. $60 per person.
