Charleston SC has deservingly received much attention over the last few years. It’s determination to preserve it’s historic past while becoming truly a destination for great restaurants, shopping, wonderful hotels and beaches is amazing.
One not mentioned other fact that touches the heart and soul of all Charlestonians is how the city, its community, reacted to the Emanuel Nine tragedy.
Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church was born in 1813 and is the largest and first black church in the South. Over the years the church was deliberately burned downed and then leveled in an earthquake. It was always rebuilt based on non violent strength for freedom.
The word Emanuel, is Hebrew and means “God with Us.”
The Godly members of this outstanding church began immediately preaching forgiveness, unity and love after this unfathomable act of violence. Many of the deceased relatives stated that this is what their loved ones would of wanted. This united a shocked and stunned community that immediately crossed over any divisive lines and speaks volumes to the best of humanity.
Charleston Strong ….. in more ways than one!
