Things to do in Charleston
It’s the weekend and Charleston always has a lot going on. Here are some suggestions for something different to do this weekend.
The Charleston Farmers market is back at Marion Square. It runs on Saturdays from 9am – 2pm. The Market has over 100 local vendors which include farmers, artisans, and food vendors. There is also live music.
Boone Hall Plantation will has the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival which begins Friday at 3pm. There will be games, carnival rides, food vendors and a pie eating contest. After experiencing the events you can pick fresh strawberries to take home.
Charleston Riverdogs host the Asheville Tourists at the Joe over the weekend. The games are Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm. Friday is a great game to attend because there are fireworks at the end of the game.
If you want to take a short trip out of town, the Firefly Distillery on Wadmalaw Island. Just a short drive from downtown Charleston the distillery hosts tasting and generally have a food truck and music on Saturdays. They have a tasting room where you get six selections for only $6 and you get to keep the shot glass as a souvenir. If you do go to the distillery make sure you stop by the Angel Oak tree near Maybank Highway and Main St. on Johns Island. Angel oak is thought to be 400 – 500 years old, has a trunk circumference of 28 feet, is 66.5 feet tall and spans 187 feet from tip to tip on the longest branches. It’s really a sight to see.
There are many other events around town but these are some unique opportunities and very family friendly. Well, the distillery might be an exception. Have a great weekend.
